The Human Rights Act or a British Bill of Rights?

In May 2016, the Government published proposals to scrap Human Rights Act and replace it with a British Bill of Rights. Many have expressed doubts about the wisdom of such a move. However, scrapping the Human Rights Act and introducing a British Bill might be a consequence of the referendum results.
With more than a nod to a famous Monty Python sketch, The Guardian and Sir Patrick Stewart have teamed up to ask a very pertinent question. The sketch, entitled ‘What has the European Convention on Human Rights ever done for us?’ sees Sir Patrick Stewart as the prime minister of Great Britain. He starts by saying ‘Before we start, I want to be absolutely clear about one thing - we are here to serve the British people, not the whims of some European Imperialist State. We are a proud nation and no bureaucrat in Brussels can tell us what to do!’
