Access to Work scheme covers work experience placements

Do your staff know that the ‘access to work’ scheme now covers work experience placements? The scheme provides financial support towards the extra costs faced by disabled people at work such as support workers, specialist aids and equipment, and travel to work.

What would you do if a visiting speaker requested gender segregation in the audience?

Universities UK recently published guidance that included a hypothetical case study exploring the legal considerations of an external speaker requesting gender segregation in the audience at an event. The case study suggested that voluntary segregation of the audience may be possible, and this caused controversy across the sector and within national media. Nelson Mandela

The Nobel Peace Prize winner died at the age of 95 in December in his home in Johannesburg. He will be remembered for his great generosity of spirit, his tireless perseverance for justice and equality, and his powerful message of reconciliation. In one of his many famous speeches, he said ‘to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others’.
