Have you asked staff who are out in your organisation for their answer to this question? Did you know that in April 2020, a gay engineer was awarded £175,000 for his ‘nightmare’ treatment after coming out?

How do you process sensitive personal data such as sexual orientation and faith? 

Many organisations are collecting data on staff and student sexual orientation and faith. This helps ensure that they recruit a diverse work and student body, and that all have a great experience at working and learning in the organisation. But organisations need to know that this data, under the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) is classified as ‘special category’ data. ICO have published new guidance on processing this type of data.

Celebrating diversity, tackling conflict

The recent protests taking place outside Birmingham, Manchester and London schools have spread to many parts of the country. They have also impacted on colleges. The protests centre around the teaching of same-sex relationships and trans-equality issues. They have resulted in complaints, protests, young people being removed from classes and staff being intimidated and threatened. How are we to respond? How can we maintain a culture of respect? What are outstanding providers doing? Here are my thoughts – what are yours?

What do you think about the Supreme Court ruling this month that a Christian baker did not have to make a cake with the message ‘support gay marriage’? Discrimination? Or a victory for article 10 of the European convention on human rights?
