Radicalisation and extremism – an issue for your organisation?

The counter-terrorism and security bill, recently introduced to parliament by the home secretary, Teresa May, will require universities and colleges to have anti-extremism policies to guard against radicalisation and extremism. What policies do you have in place?
The counter-terrorism and security bill is part of a series of anti-radicalisation measures to be introduced as part of a new counter-terrorism and security bill. Prisons, local government, universities and colleges will face a statutory duty to have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism.

A number of years ago, the government published guidance on preventing violent extremism. The guide emphasised the importance of working with children and young people and encouraged local partnerships to engage with schools and colleges. A toolkit ‘Learning together to be safe; A toolkit to help schools contribute to the prevention of violent extremism’ supplements that guidance, responding to calls for more practical advice specifically focused on the education context.
