Forthcoming sector E&D events - dates for your diaries

Make sure you and your staff don’t miss out – I am delivering a number of E&D national events in the Spring and Summer term on behalf of the AoC, including

Improving disability equality, improving practice, meeting the needs of disabled learners:

Embedding E&D in the curriculum:

E&D and the 2012 inspection framework:

The AoC national diversity June 2013 conference:

Improving disability equality, improving practice; meeting the needs of disabled learners.

We have made much progress in meeting the needs of disabled learners but cases going through the Equality Commission and outcomes from inspection show there is still much more to do. But what does this mean in practice? For example, how do we decide what is reasonable? What if we think a student should enrol on a course but tutors don’t? What about health and safety?  What about learners who don’t disclose? In the face of funding cuts and efficiency gains, how can we ensure that disabled students don’t lose out? This practical event will take place in London in May or June – date to be confirmed.

To find out about the date, to register your interest for the event or to find out more, please email training@aoc-create.co.uk, or see the links on the events page of my website; these will be activated once registration is possible (normally six to eight weeks before the event). Embedding E&D in the curriculum

An evaluation of inspection outcomes since September 2012 shows that promoting understanding of equality and appreciation of diversity feature in recommendations for improvement in teaching, learning and assessment. But how can you embed E&D in areas such as maths, engineering, physics or IT? What do inspectors mean when they say ‘missed opportunities’? What should staff look for when carrying out lesson observations? What are the very best providers doing, where inspectors cite excellent promotion of equality and diversity throughout the curriculum? This practical event will take place in London on 28 May and Birmingham on 29 May.

To find out about the date, to register your interest for the event or to find out more, please email training@aoc-create.co.uk, or see the links on the events page of my website; these will be activated once registration is possible (normally six to eight weeks before the event). E&D & the 2012 inspection framework

How has the inspection of E&D changed? Are there any lessons to learn from the outcomes of the previous inspection framework? What will inspectors now look for? This essential training will help you to get to grips with the 2012 inspection of E&D and be ‘inspection ready’. This practical event will take place in London on 11 June and Manchester on 13 May.
