Don’t forget to publish your second Equality Information Report for Jan 2013

Listed public sector organisations had to publish their first Equality Information Report by Jan 2012. This is an annual duty, so you need to publish your second Equality Information Report on your website by the 31st Jan 2013. Make sure you report is robust by checking against feedback from the Dec 12 research conducted by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), as this found that many organisations were not meeting their duties

EHRC guidance and research on pre-employment questionnaires

Asking health or disability-related questions during recruitment and selection is now unlawful under the Equality Act 2010, unless they fall under a limited set of exceptions. In January 2013 the Equality and Human Rights Commission published outcomes of research into recruitment practice. The research found that despite the requirements of the Act, the use of pre-employment questions on forms or during interviews is relatively commonplace. How does your practice compare?

Commission welcomes European Court of Human Rights ruling on religious discrimination cases

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has announced that it will work with employers and religious groups to help them interpret the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling on a series of cases involving religious freedom in the workplace. Four cases will be of practical interest to providers.
